Dear CapCom,
I want to take a moment to explain to you why, just WHY it was a bad mistake to can the MegaMan Legends 3 Project. Take a look around your fans for just a moment. During the past year, you have made many questionable decisions that have angered many your fans or outright confused them at best. Many have gone to stop giving support to your company. I am soon to be one of them. This isn’t just about MegaMan Legends 3, oh no. It is about a lot of things. Like how you have all this on-disc DLC anymore. When we gamers buy a disc, we expect the full content available in-game. Unless the DLC is to unlock it early, it is not fair for any company to do that to loyal fans. This is about charging us for demos. You charge us to TEST your game for you and see if we will like it or not? This is about taking a character loved by many fans, Dante and letting some company deal with the Devil May Cry series and dare say “its not cool and good enough anymore.” Fans, most, say they are 100% wrong in their direction and they tell us that WE’RE wrong, and then you back them on this? The fans are never wrong about what they want. IF sales are wanted, it is their demands you must please.
This is about forcing us to have an online connection to play games. This is about release multiple versions of the same game within the same year with minor tweaks and a few new characters we know were probably already completed. This is about denying us, the fans, the most popular asked character, Megaman X, for Marvel vs Capcom 3. While many of those other top characters got in. WE know your talented team can fit him in creatively, no doubt. This is about denying the rest of the world some games because you fear they won’t sell enough. Look at so many fans pleading for games like the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton Crossover or the new Ace Attorney Investigations game. Is translated a game and reusing the same sounds you have for a while with the Ace Attorney games that hard? Does translating text and shipping cost that much? I do not believe that, nor do many others. Those games will sell.
This isn’t about Megaman Legends 3 alone. But for me, it was the end of the line. We were teased and teased from day one announcement. Many went and bought a 3DS JUST for this game alone. This game was my main reason for wanting one. Thank heavens I found TWO other games to play on it so far and I hope more come out for it or else it would be a worthless system. You say the fans have to make it? Excuse me? And then CapCom make all the money? What is even the point? We pay for games that you guys make. You drop this game for next to no real reason at all, claiming no real audience. Look on facebook. Nearly 30,000 people have assembled and is gaining momentum to reach 100,000 strong for this game. You deny that audience when that is only a small fraction of megaman legends fans? Hell even Megaman fans alone? This game is important for many of us. This game is a mush wanted sequel since the near end of the Playstation 1 era. This is a sequel of a series that holds a special place in our hearts.
I remember playing this game as a kid. All I did was play games. MegaMan was my favorite. I had to have every MegaMan game. But I spent so much more time in the Megaman Legends game than any other of the franchises. I loved the story. I loved the characters. I loved the gameplay. ALL of it. I loved finding out in the first game you could get extra cash by kicking a soda can into the bakery. Something even as little as that. If I still had working discs of these two games, I would be playing it even today. But alas I do not and they are not even on the PlayStation Store where they should be and would easily collect downloads. I would buy BOTH of them. I even await the X-series but the Legends Games are 2 I await with much more anticipation. The announcement of this game lit a spark in my heart I had not felt in years. Such excitement over a Megaman game I haven’t felt in a long time. The cancellation of this project hit hard. I don’t get real angry over games being made and such, but this was a move I can not forget. Heck I was even willing to pay for the prototype even when paying for demos was one thing I was really against.
This is me alone. My sadness over this runs deep. Now multiply that sadness into all of those fans that felt betrayed and left in the dust by this. This can easily turn to scorn and some even start boycotting CapCom. I have met people who are not even Legends fans but still claim this was a deep scarring move made by CapCom and said CapCom should feel ashamed of doing this to their fans. I am hear on behalf of so many to beg you, on my knees begging you while losing my pride, to continue this game. I am now 21 years old and I want this game because it takes me back to an easier time where I felt free. This series always takes me back to good times. This is how deep the cancellation runs for so many people. I implore you to understand our plight as your fans for so long. I have been a fan since I was 7 years old! That is 14 years of my loyalty of buying so many of your games. For my playsation 1 and 2, for my gameboys, for me DS, and up to today with recent systems. 14 years is a long time for gaming. It is a long time for me. My childhood was filled with many of CapCom’s game and it sad that I must look away now for such a thing. CapCom had made a lot of decisions I had not agreed with recently, but this was it for me. I can not continue a to support CapCom if they will not work for their fans like they have for so long, making only great games for us. Not keeping them from us. I implore you to reconsider this.
Thank you,
A Fan
